9th Annual Emergency of Hunger Food Drive!

Emergency response agency and food pantry representatives gathered Tuesday at the Manchester Area Conference of Churches Food Pantry to kick off the Emergency of Hunger Food Drive

First responders again are collecting food to stock regional soup kitchens and pantries.

The first collection for the Emergency of Hunger Food Drive is set for Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Manchester Stop & Shop, 286 Broad St. The effort is to continue the following weekend.

Now in its ninth year, the drive relies on volunteers from police, fire and emergency medical agencies, along with Rotary Club members and Stop & Shop and Geissler’s supermarkets. Collections benefit clients of soup kitchens and food pantries run by Manchester Area Conference of Churches Charities and the Hockanum Valley Community Council.

Last year, people donated about 34,000 food items, 650 turkeys and $16,000 in gift cards and cash.

“Every year we are shocked, amazed and proud of the generosity we see,” food drive spokesman Patrick Gleason of Ambulance Service of Manchester said Monday. “To date, our records show a combined total of 1,149,000 meals served.”

The food drive will take place on the following days at the locations provided below:

  • Manchester – Stop & Shop (286 Broad Street) Saturday November 11th and Sunday November 12th from 10am -6pm
  • Manchester – Stop & Shop (286 Broad Street) Saturday November 17th and Sunday November 18th from 10am -6pm
  • Vernon – Stop & Shop (10 Ptikin Road) Saturday November 17th and Sunday November 18th from 10am -6pm
  • Rockville – Stop & Shop (50 Windsorville Road) Saturday November 17th and Sunday November 18th from 10am -6pm
  • South Windsor – Stop & Shop (1739 Ellington Road) Saturday November 17th and Sunday November 18th from 10am -6pm
  • South Windsor – Geissler’s (965 Sullivan Avenue) Saturday November 17th and Sunday November 18th from 10am -6pm

Aetna Participates in Wethersfield First Responder Food Drive

Wethersfield- On Sunday, November 5th 2017, Aetna employees attended a Food Drive at Stop and Shop (1380 Berlin Tpke) hosted by Wethersfield PD, FD and EMS. Nick Caisse and Lauren Hartwell teamed up with members of the Wethersfield agencies to collect goods for donation to the local food bank at event end.

ASM at Downtown Manchester’s ‘Halloween Happenings’ 2017

MANCHESTER — On October 28, 2017 Ambulance Service of Manchester EMTs Elizabeth Miller and Thomas MacLean set up an “Amb-boo-lance” near Pinewood Furniture as part of Downtown Manchester’s Halloween Happenings. Liz and Tom handed out candy to the trick-or-treaters making their way to each store and business taking part in the event on Main Street.

Dispatcher Michael Lyman (Batman), EMT Bianca Krzynowek and Paramedic Chris Myska joined in the festivities as well.

 

No Shave November!

No Shave November is officially here! ASM and Aetna are encouraging employees to put down their razors in an effort to raise awareness for men’s health!

 

 

 

 

 

Official Rules for Team ASM-Aetna

  • Road personnel are required to follow all OSHA requirements and adhere to the grooming policies outlined in the ASM and Aetna employee manuals.
  • One “Beard” Team Captain from ASM and one “Beard” Team Captain from Aetna will be selected based on popular vote at month end.
  • Alternates from each company will selected following results in the same fashion.
  • Anonymous votes will be collected inside dispatch at 10-1 for ASM and Station A for Aetna.
  • Prizes for the four respective winners will be distributed by the management team in early December.
  • ASM and Aetna will be contributing to the Movember Foundation at the end of the month. Employees, family members and friends have the opportunity to contribute as well by following the link to Team ASM-Aetna provided below.

ASM & Aetna Join the Fight Against Breast Cancer-2017 Totals

Year one fundraising for Team ASM-Aetna was a great success. Through the efforts of our employees, family members, and friends, we were able to raise close to $1,100 for Breast Cancer Research. With the company match, and proceeds from the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk this past Sunday, a total of $3,288 has been donated to the American Cancer Society. Thank you to everyone involved for your generous contributions and dedication to the cause.

Cleared for Independent Dispatch: Aetna’s Blake St. John Completes Precepting Phase

HARTFORD – As of October 27th, 2017, Aetna’s Blake St. John has been cleared by Hartford Hospital medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that Aetna serves. His preceptor was Paramedic Greg Kendall. Blake has been working in EMS for 11 years. He started at Aetna in August of 2015, and graduated from Capital Community College Paramedic Program.

As with all precepting phases at Aetna, Blake’s final approval came from Hartford Hospital after shadowing him and his preceptor in the field as they responded to emergency calls.On behalf of the Aetna Family, we would like to wish Blake the best of luck and say we are very proud to have such skilled professionals on staff.

The Ambulance Service of Manchester is proud to release the third issue of Pulse, the ASM employee newsletter. Released quarterly, Pulse features numerous articles outlining company news and events, training opportunities, case studies, health and wellness tips, and more. Additionally, each issue will contain an Employee Spotlight article, recognizing an EMT or Paramedic that has demonstrated a commitment to patients and co-workers alike via positive attitude, work ethic, and overall inspiring demeanor. MANCHESTER- On Thursday October 12th, ASM Director of Operations, Stephen Conley, served as a panelist at St. Bridget’s Church to offer insight on the opioid crisis from the EMS provider’s perspective. The event was covered by Annie Gentile of the Hartford Courant and published in the Courant Community section this morning.

Cleared for Independent Dispatch: ASM’s Gabner Alcime Completes Precepting Phase

MANCHESTER – As of October 20th, 2017, ASM’s Gabner Alcime has been cleared by Eastern Connecticut Health Network medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that ASM serves. His preceptor was Paramedic Scott Crittenden. Gabner hails from Port Charlotte Florida and started at ASM in July of 2017.

 

Gabner has over a decade of EMS experience working as an EMT and eventually a Paramedic for Lee County Emergency Medical Service. As with all precepting phases at ASM, Gabner’s final approval came from Eastern Connecticut Health Network after shadowing him and his preceptor in the field as they responded to emergency calls.

On behalf of the ASM Family, we would like to wish Gabner the best of luck and say we are very proud to have such skilled professionals on staff.

ASM & Aetna Join the Fight Against Breast Cancer-Vol. 3

MANCHESTER- Purchasing a t-shirt and bracelet in order to donate to ASM and Aetna’s Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser was only the beginning for Ambulance Service of Manchester EMT, Kristi Glowacki. In an effort to raise more money for the cause, Kristi put her talent for baking to good use. As you’ll note in the adjacent photo, Kristi dedicated a portion of her time off to prepare pink ribbon cookies, as well as pink frosted cupcakes. The first round, offered last week, sold-out in a matter of minutes. ASM anticipates the same result today.

All of the proceeds will be matched by the company and presented to the American Cancer Society at the end of the month.Thanks to Kristi, both for her baking abilities and compassion!

MANCHESTER – As of October 13th, 2017, ASM’s Tiffany Armas has been cleared by Eastern Connecticut Health Network medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that ASM serves. Her preceptors were Paramedic Supervisor’s Melissa Osborne and Joshua Traber.

Tiffany started at ASM in February of 2015 and graduated from the Capital Community College Paramedic Program. Additionally, she is a volunteer a member of North Windham Fire Department. As with all precepting phases at ASM, Tiffany’s final approval came from Eastern Connecticut Health Network after shadowing her and her preceptors in the field as they responded to emergency calls.

On behalf of the ASM Family, we would like to wish Tiffany the best of luck and say we are very proud to have such skilled professionals on staff.

Pink T-Shirts weren’t enough! As you’ll note in the pictures provided, Aetna crew members have joined the battle by purchasing specially designed rubber bracelets and pins. Their generous donations will be matched by the company and offered to the American Cancer Society at the end of the Month.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, one in eight woman in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Each year, it is estimated that over 252,710 women in the United States will be diagnosed. In an effort to raise money for research, and in honor of those affected, the Ambulance Service of Manchester has offered employees pink long sleeve t- shirts and rubber bracelets (Livestrong style) for the price of a small donation. At the end of the month, the company will match the total contribution and direct all of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society.

ASM Office Staff Participate in Alzheimer’s Fundraiser!

EAST HARTFORD- On Tuesday, September 26th 2017 Heather Roy and Allie Norton, members of the Ambulance Service of Manchester’s call taking team attended Riverside Health & Rehabilitation’s “Paint Night Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s.” In an effort to support the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s (the Nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds), participants received instruction from local artist Scott Ginter, then created a floral design canvas honoring those affected by the disease.

ROCKY HILL- On Friday September 22, 2017 Aetna Paramedic Shannon Whalen, and EMTs Laura Cashman and Thomas Whalen were on hand during the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs “Stand Down 2017”  As provided on Connecticut’s Official State Website ( link available below), “this event provides CT Veterans with access to a variety of federal, state and local services such as: veterans benefits, medical, dental, mental health,  recovery services, legal, housing, employment, education and much more.”
