Cleared for Independent Dispatch: ASM’s Rodney Bailey Completes Precepting Phase

MANCHESTER – As of September 23rd 2018, ASM’s Rodney Bailey has been cleared by Eastern Connecticut Health Network medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that ASM serves. His preceptors were Paramedic Supervisor’s Robert O’Neil and Timothy Lachappelle. Rodney was hired at the Ambulance Service of Manchester in March, 2018. He offered the following sentiment:

“During my precepting phase, I responded to roughly 90 calls over an 11-week period. ASM, with its very large geographic coverage responsibility, has been a blessing in that I have been able to work in many team settings: from solo ambulance response to 10+ person volunteer responses which have helped develop good teamwork and direction capabilities. My talented preceptors were able to immediately identify areas that needed correction, provide guidance, as well as, provide best practices based on their combined experience. Tim and Bob were absolutely critical and professional in preparing me to operate in ASM’s sphere of EMS responsibility. I thoroughly enjoyed my time learning from and practicing alongside these two, and I am excited to be cleared for independent dispatch.”

As with all precepting phases at ASM, Rodney’s final approval came from Eastern Connecticut Health Network after shadowing him and his preceptors in the field as they responded to emergency calls. Mercedes Bariatric Ambulances Arrive for Duty at Aetna and ASM

HARTFORD and MANCHESTER, Connecticut — Recently Aetna Ambulance Service and the Ambulance Service of Manchester took delivery of two new bariatric Mercedes Sprinter Ambulances from American Emergency Vehicles (AEV) increasing the overall bariatric fleet to four vehicles. The new ambulances have an upgraded design with a longer wheel base and larger load capacity. ASM and Aetna firmly believe that the ergonomic advancements will improve both patient care and comfort. As with our previous bariatric ambulances, each new unit is equipped with Stryker Power-LOAD stretcher lift systems capable of lifting a maximum patient weight of 700 pounds. Fitting our bariatric vehicles with the Power-LOAD stretcher lift system is part of Aetna and ASM’s long-term commitment to the safety of our patients and employees. 

Cleared for Independent Dispatch: ASM’s Charles Lodge Completes Precepting Phase

MANCHESTER – As of September 28th, 2018, ASM’s Charles Lodge has been cleared by Eastern Connecticut Health Network medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that ASM serves. His preceptors were veteran paramedics Greg Derosier and Dave White. Charlie was hired at the Ambulance Service of Manchester in March, 2015. He offered the following sentiment:

“During my precepting phase I responded to roughly 100 calls over a 10-week period. ASM has a very large coverage area so this was an excellent opportunity as a new Paramedic to get familiar with many of the volunteer services we work alongside. Having two of ASM’s seasoned paramedics offer guidance as I transitioned into my new role was paramount. In conjunction to emergencies, a large part of our job is high acuity interfacility transfers between area hospitals. Greg and Dave were crucial in getting me familiar with how ASM operates in this capacity and our role as Paramedics. I thoroughly enjoyed my time practicing alongside the two of them and I am excited to be cleared for independent med control.”

As with all precepting phases at ASM, Charlie’s final approval came from Eastern Connecticut Health Network after shadowing him and his preceptors in the field as they responded to emergency calls. Cleared for Independent Dispatch: ASM’s Matthew Burrell Completes Precepting Phase

MANCHESTER – As of September 2nd, 2018, ASM’s Matthew Burrell has been cleared by Eastern Connecticut Health Network medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that ASM serves. His preceptors were Paramedic Supervisor Beth Sheils and Paramedic Dave White. Matthew was hired at the Ambulance Service of Manchester in December, 2017. He offered the following sentiment regarding his time at ASM:

“I began working at ASM last December after completing Paramedic school at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston. I was immediately impressed by the professionalism and technical proficiency of my coworkers and have been proud to be part of a company where the EMT’s and Paramedics are held in such high regard throughout the EMS community. Over the past months of precepting, I benefitted greatly from the experience of both of my preceptors who have each worked in EMS for twenty years. I am honored to have been mentored by such capable Paramedics and look forward to utilizing the knowledge I have gained from them while providing ALS service to the communities that ASM covers.”

Meet the Newest Members of the Team: Aetna Hires Eight – 2018

HARTFORD — On August 20th, 2018, two Paramedics, and six EMTs were added to the Aetna team. As part of our continued growth, Aetna and ASM seek out only the best candidates. We look for employees who are focused on high-quality patient care, are team oriented and conduct themselves in a professional manner. During the orientation, employees learn about company philosophy and goals, quality assurance, and policies and procedures.

Jaymine Patel: FULL TIME, PARAMEDIC. Hi, my name is Jaymine, usually go by Jay. I live in Manchester and  I am finishing up medic school at Capital. I received my Bachelors of Science in Biology and Psychology from UConn in 2015. I’ve been an EMT for roughly 4 years now and currently an EMT in Vernon, Manchester and Wethersfield and worked as a tech at Rockville Hospital. I’m very excited to start working for Aetna and being part of the team.

Michael D’Arcy: FULL TIME, EMT. Hello I’m Michael D’Arcy. I’m 22 years old and live in West Hartford, CT. I recently graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Conflict Resolution. I played soccer in college and I also worked as the university’s mascot, Chuck the Colonial. My ultimate goal is to go to graduate school to be a Physician’s Assistant.

 

Brian Gauthier: FULL TIME, EMT. My name is Brain Gauthier, and I am from Middletown, CT. I graduated from York College of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s of Science in criminal justice and minor in business administration.  My future career goal is to become a paramedic. In my free time I volunteer at Westfield Fire Department as an EMT. I also enjoy going to the beach, gym, and all things sports. I look forward to working with all of you!

 

Luke McNaboe: PART TIME, EMT. My name is Luke McNaboe, and I am from Burlington CT. I studied Environmental Engineering at UConn, and worked in hydrology research for 3 years. I had great mentors and worked on interesting projects, but I wanted a career where I could make a real positive difference for all kinds of people. This spring, I completed EMT training at Code 1 in East Hartford. I’m thankful for this opportunity to learn about emergency medicine and look forward to taking care of any patients I may have. In the long term, I hope to become a doctor. I’m excited to meet new people who are also passionate about EMS and serving the community.

Nicole Rosario: FULL TIME, EMT. Hi, my name is Nicole Rosario and I have lived in CT all my life. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business with a concentration in Human Resources and an Associate’s degree in Medical Assisting. I worked in the corporate world for over 11 years, however, my love for helping people brought me into healthcare. My future plan is to become a nurse. When I am not at work, I am spending time with my son and daughter. I am looking forward to working at Aetna and the experiences it will bring me.

Wayne Buckley: PART TIME, EMT. Hi, my name is Wayne Buckley. I was hired part time as an EMT-B. I have been an EMT with Rocky Hill for the past five years, and Glastonbury for the past year. I’m currently in the process of getting my paramedic, and I am eager to begin my career at Aetna Ambulance.

 

 

 

Chris Korzinski: FULL TIME, PARAMEDIC: Greetings, I’m Chris Korzinski, 38 years old, have been an EMT for 17 years, a police officer for over 10 years and I am finishing Paramedic School in the next few weeks. I am fluent in Polish, have been married for 14 years, and have two boys ages 7 and 10. I look forward to making my transition from New Britain EMS and starting my new endeavor here at Aetna.

 

Adrian Lopata: FULL TIME, EMT: 

My name is Adrian. I went through EMT school a few years ago and since have volunteered at a couple of services and worked full time at St. Francis Hospital. In the future I am highly considering Paramedic school.

Cleared for Independent Dispatch: Aetna’s David Rivera Completes Precepting Phase

HARTFORD – As of July 19th, 2018, David Rivera has been cleared by Hartford Hospital medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that Aetna serves. His preceptor was Paramedic Greg Kendall. David started at Aetna in March of 2015 and graduated from Capital Community College Paramedic Program.

As with all precepting phases at Aetna, David’s final approval came from Hartford Hospital after shadowing him and his preceptor in the field as they responded to emergency calls. Cleared for Independent Dispatch: Aetna’s Jacob Brungard Completes Precepting Phase

HARTFORD – As of May 24th, 2018, Jacob Brungard has been cleared by Hartford Hospital medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that Aetna serves. His preceptor was Paramedic Mitch Karr. Jacob started at Aetna in August of 2013 and graduated from Capital Community College Paramedic Program.

As with all precepting phases at Aetna, Jacob’s final approval came from Hartford Hospital after shadowing him and his preceptor in the field as they responded to emergency calls. SOUTH WINDSOR- On Thursday August 16th 2018, Ambulance Service of Manchester EMT’s Spenser Shirshac and Christopher Melite spent the afternoon enjoying the food and festivities at the Journey Found Summer Picnic at Nevers Park in South Windsor. The mission of Journey Found is “to provide behavioral, residential and other support services to individuals of Connecticut with pervasive developmental disorders and intellectual disabilities.” Spencer and Chris were able to interact with members while providing standby coverage for the event.

HARTFORD – As of July 11th, 2018, Jayson Braman has been cleared by Hartford Hospital medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that Aetna serves. His preceptor was Paramedic Matthew Campbell. He offered the following sentiment regarding his time at Aetna:

“I completed the paramedic program at New Britain EMS Academy and started my career in Wolcott with medical control out of St. Mary’s hospital in Waterbury, CT. Looking for a service area that was a faster pace to gain the most experience, I thought no better place than the capital city. I am excited to begin my career here at Aetna continuing to learn and grow as a paramedic. A special thanks to Matt Campbell as my preceptor for his help through the process.”

Aetna’s Michael Bouley and Brandon Butler receive Thank You Letter

WETHERSFIELD — In late June, 2018, Aetna received another heartfelt Thank You letter directed to Paramedic Michael Bouley and EMT Brandon Butler. The card reads:

“Your EMT/Paramedic’s were very professional. They explained in full detail how they would carry me in a special chair down 14 stairs (I live in raised ranch). I felt very, very confident in their strength, calmness and positive attitude. If I have need in the future for transportation to the hospital, I would like your company to assist me. Thank you.”

Cleared for Independent Dispatch: ASM’s Dave Tedeschi Completes Precepting Phase

MANCHESTER – As of June 13th, 2018, ASM’s David Tedeschi has been cleared by Eastern Connecticut Health Network medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that ASM serves. His preceptors were Paramedic Supervisor Josh Traber and Paramedic Greg Derosier. Dave was hired at the Ambulance Service of Manchester in December, 2011. He offered the following sentiment regarding his time at ASM:

I started working at ASM about 7 years ago. After spending time as an EMT, I wanted to do more in the medical field. I decided to enroll in the Capital Community College Paramedic Program and graduated this past December. I look forward to practicing medicine as a paramedic in the area that ASM covers. I want to thank my preceptors for their knowledge and guidance during my journey.

Jonathan Robarge: FULL TIME, PARAMEDIC. My name is Jonathan Robarge. I am 25 years old. I have been working in commercial EMS for 3 years as an EMT. I attended Capitol Community College to get my paramedic license for the last 18 months. During ride time, I spent a majority of my hours at ASM and was impressed with the feedback and teamwork of the crews I worked with. I am excited to grow as a paramedic in this company. In my off time, I enjoy hiking, mountain biking, traveling and boating with my wife and 9 month old yellow lab Epi.

Megan Stevenson: FULL TIME, EMT. My name is Megan and I am 22 years old. I am an East Hartford resident and I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Allied Health Sciences at the University of Connecticut. I am an active volunteer for the town of Glastonbury EMS and am eager to begin more work with ASM. I plan to graduate from UConn in the spring of 2019 and continue to work and gain experience in the medical field. Following my undergraduate degree, I hope to attend graduate school to pursue a career as a Physician’s Assistant.

Carolyn Edwards: FULL TIME, DISPATCHER. Hi my name is Carolyn Edwards, former full time EMT @ ASM for 5 years (03/2009-11/2014), currently joining the dispatch crew. Took a few general studies classes @ MCC. Interested in learning & getting back to action in the EMS field. Forever immensely grateful for all that has been done for me during my time away from EMS & for all of my teachers (EMS colleagues & coworkers, medical field professionals, professors & patients) that helped me arrive at the humbling truth of how much I had to learn & just how much I didn’t know. I look forward to learning dispatch & many more great times.

Chris Melite: FULL TIME, EMT. Hi! My name is Chris Melite and I am 27 years old. I grew up in the small town of Canton, CT and moved to Vernon, CT two years ago. I received my EMT-B certification from Code One early this year. I am an active member of the Town of Vernon Fire Department as a volunteer Firefighter/EMT. I graduated in 2014 from the University of New Haven with my bachelor’s degree.

In my free time I enjoy working out, hiking, camping, and SCUBA diving. I am very excited to pursue a career with the ASM team, and the opportunities that it presents.

Greg Cataford: FULL TIME, EMT. Hello, my name is Greg Cataford. I have spent many years working in the service industry. Over the past year, I have been transitioning my focus and passions into the EMS field after completing my EMT certification through New Britain EMS Academy. I have been a full time volunteer at Glastonbury EMS during this time.

I aspire to obtain my paramedic license in the next two years.  I am looking forward to growing personally and professionally during my time at ASM.

Hannah Knight: FULL TIME, EMT. Hi, my name is Hannah Knight I’m 24 (for a few more days), and I live in Norwich, CT. I have been an EMT and in commercial EMS for about a year and a half now and involved with several fire departments for the last 11 years! My goal is to start medic school in the next year or so. On my off time, I love going to the beach or pool. I’m very excited to start my career here with all of you!

 

Micah Davis: FULL TIME DISPATCHER/EMT. Hello I’m Micah Davis. I’m from West Hartford CT. I’m a volunteer EMT at Rocky Hill. Due to age requirements I’m blessed to get the opportunity to work as a Dispatcher at Aetna, and seek to extend my education all the way to paramedic school in future. My goal is to be the best part of someone’s worst day.

 

Monica Hildebrand: FULL TIME EMT. Hi, my name is Monica Hildebrand. I’m from Middletown, CT where I’ve lived for the past 16 years. I have been an EMT for 4 years. I’ve also been volunteering in Rocky Hill as an EMT for roughly the same amount of time. Additionally, I have worked at CCMC as an EEG tech and I’ve done home healthcare. Currently, I’m finishing up my Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences. My ultimate goal is to either go on to nursing or public health. I am very excited for the opportunity to work at Aetna!

Alex Patetta: FULL TIME, EMT. My name is Alex Patetta, I am originally from New Jersey, but have lived in Connecticut for the last 5 years. I graduated from Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing with a minor in International Business. I was a volunteer firefighter in New Jersey prior to coming to Connecticut. My future goal is to become a career firefighter. Outside of my intended career path, I enjoy focusing on a healthy lifestyle which includes working out and playing sports. I am very excited for this new opportunity as an EMT and look forward to the new experiences it will bring.

Cleared for Independent Dispatch: ASM’s Tom MacLean Completes Precepting Phase

MANCHESTER – As of June 9th, 2018, ASM’s Tom MacLean has been cleared by Eastern Connecticut Health Network medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that ASM serves. His preceptors were Paramedic Supervisor Tim Lachappelle and Paramedic Scott Crittenden. Tom was hired at the Ambulance Service of Manchester in September, 2014. He offered the following sentiment regarding his time at ASM:

“I started at ASM nearly 4 years ago and quickly developed a passion for emergency medicine. I graduated from New Britain EMS Academy’s paramedic program this past January and look forward to the experience of working as a higher level provider. I must thank my preceptors for the incredible knowledge they helped instill upon me, as well as the many other coworkers who have supported me during this time. Thank you.”
