Pink T-Shirts weren’t enough! As you’ll note in the pictures provided, Aetna crew members have joined the battle by purchasing specially designed rubber bracelets and pins. Their generous donations will be matched by the company and offered to the American Cancer Society at the end of the Month.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, one in eight woman in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Each year, it is estimated that over 252,710 women in the United States will be diagnosed. In an effort to raise money for research, and in honor of those affected, the Ambulance Service of Manchester has offered employees pink long sleeve t- shirts and rubber bracelets (Livestrong style) for the price of a small donation. At the end of the month, the company will match the total contribution and direct all of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society.

ASM Office Staff Participate in Alzheimer’s Fundraiser!

EAST HARTFORD- On Tuesday, September 26th 2017 Heather Roy and Allie Norton, members of the Ambulance Service of Manchester’s call taking team attended Riverside Health & Rehabilitation’s “Paint Night Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s.” In an effort to support the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer’s (the Nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds), participants received instruction from local artist Scott Ginter, then created a floral design canvas honoring those affected by the disease.

ROCKY HILL- On Friday September 22, 2017 Aetna Paramedic Shannon Whalen, and EMTs Laura Cashman and Thomas Whalen were on hand during the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs “Stand Down 2017”  As provided on Connecticut’s Official State Website ( link available below), “this event provides CT Veterans with access to a variety of federal, state and local services such as: veterans benefits, medical, dental, mental health,  recovery services, legal, housing, employment, education and much more.”

ASM Plays in Annual Charity Softball Tournament!

MANCHESTER — On September 16, 2017 Ambulance Service of Manchester employees returned to play in an annual charity softball tournament against teams from Manchester Police Department and Manchester Fire Rescue EMS. Proceeds from the event benefit the Manchester Police Benevolent Association. ASM On Hand at the Wapping Fair in South Windsor, 2017

SOUTH WINDSOR — On September 7th-10th, 2017 crews from the Ambulance Service of Manchester were on hand at the Wapping Fair in South Windsor. The event is organized by the South Windsor Jaycees Foundation and is billed as an exciting combination of fun, unique entertainment and lots of family friendly hands on attractions, two of which were sponsored by ASM.

 

ASM performed a medical standby alongside South Windsor Fire Department partners. The standby served a dual purpose as the children were able to take tours of the ambulance and fire apparatus.

ASM Attends 9/11 Tribute in Manchester

MANCHESTER- On September 11th, 2017 Bowers Elementary School hosted a 9/11 tribute honoring victims and family members, as well as, police, fire and EMS personnel affected by the 2001 attack. Employees from the Ambulance Service of Manchester were invited to attend the ceremony along with other members of the first responder community in Manchester.

 

ASM On Hand at Farm Day 2017 at Fish Family Farm

BOLTON — On September 2nd, 2017 Paramedic Jared Krajewski and EMT Bekka Fross, from the Ambulance Service of Manchester were on hand at Fish Family Farm for the Lutz Children’s Museum’s Farm Day 2017. The event provided local residents with live music, hay rides, animals, games, and most importantly, farm fresh ice cream.

ASM performed a standby alongside Bolton Fire Department. The standby served a dual purpose as the children were able to take tours of both the ambulance and fire apparatus.

ASM Attends “Touch a Truck” Event in Manchester

MANCHESTER- On August 10th, 2017 The Ambulance Service of Manchester was invited to attend Manchester KinderCare’s “Touch a Truck” event. Organized by the Center Director, the day encouraged kids to interact with EMS personnel in order to gain a sense of familiarity with first responders. ASM staff members provided ambulance tours, posed for pictures and handed out coloring books to those in attendance.

SOUTH WINDSOR- Earlier this month, crews from the Ambulance Service of Manchester assisted South Windsor Community Center TRIAD with a food drive at both Geissler’s Supermarket and Stop and Shop. Members of the Hartford Evergreen Lodge #88 of Freemasons were also on site participating in the event. ASM Teams Up with East Hartford Middle School’s Special Education Department!

MANCHESTER- On Tuesday May 30th, 2017 employees from the Ambulance Service of Manchester were invited to East Hartford Middle School’s Special Education Department, in order to familiarize students with emergency personnel. ASM EMT’s, Kyle Caldwell and Kaitlyn Duley, fielded questions and interacted with schoolchildren to provide them with a sense of understanding of the first responder community. The event was coordinated by Special Education Teacher Christine Sposito, who acts as the program leader for East Hartford Middle School’s progressive “Independent Living Skills Class.” In addition to a general overview of EMS life by the crew, the students received an equipment demonstration, tours of the ambulance, and a mock patient care scenario.

Monday, May 22nd

  • 0730-1200: Hartford Hospital: Annual EMS Week Symposium, ERC 221. A multidisciplinary group if physicians deliver engaging , EMS-specific presentations. No charge, all level of providers are encouraged to attend. To register please email David.Bailey@hhchealth.org.
  • 1000: The staff of OEMS will join the Council of Regional Chairpersons (CORC) in celebration of the annual EMS awards at the State Capitol. All are welcome. The Ceremony will take place in the Old Judiciary Room and will honor individuals and services from throughout Connecticut.

Tuesday, May 23rd

  • 1100-1300: Saint Francis Hospital Fajita Festival Lunch

Wednesday, May 24th

  • 1200-1400: Hartford Hospital (outside of Conklin Building) Annual Cook-out.
  • 1700-1900: Saint Francis Hospital Fajita Fling Dinner
  • 1700: Saint Francis Hospital Emergency Department: Annual EMS Champion Award.
  • 1730-1900 Hartford Hosptial (outsdie of Conlkin Building) Annual Cool-out.

Thursday, May 25th

  • 1800: Johnson Memorial Hospital BBQ. CME follows BBQ at CMEC Ammpitheater (the building on the right as you enter the main hospital driveway) 201 Chestnut Hill Road, Stafford Springs.

  • 1700-2000: Ambulance Service of Manchester Employee BBQ. 275 New State Rd, Manchester.

Aetna Attends “Touch A Truck Event” in Hartford!

HARTFORD — On May 6, 2017 Aetna Ambulance Service attended a Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood themed “Touch a Truck” event held at CPBN Television Station on Asylum Avenue in Hartford. The event, organized by a group of military veterans, encouraged kids to interact with Police, Fire, and EMS personnel in order to gain a sense of familiarity with first responders. Event Coordinator James Reeves’s motivation for the project was “creating, coordinating, and executing a family-friendly event that highlights the importance for children and families to “be a good neighbor” and become more involved in their communities.”  Mr. Reeves also stated “we feel that kids should be unafraid of those in uniform to the point that they can communicate freely and openly, especially in times of urgent need.”

Aetna Field Supervisor Matt Campbell, and EMT’s Alexandra Zhakov and Anthony Mazzola provided ambulance tours and the entertainment for those in attendance, giving out coloring books and posing for pictures.

 

ASM Participates in “Life is a Picnic” Senior Health Fair

MANCHESTER- On Thursday May 4th, 2017 the Ambulance Service of Manchester participated in Manchester Health Department’s “Life is a Picnic” Senior Health Fair.  Over 40 organizations took part in this event offering services and demonstrations to hundreds of seniors within the community. ASM’s Kyle Caldwell and Karisa Welch spent the afternoon fielding questions and interacting with participants like long time Senior Center Volunteer Earl Parent, featured in the picture above.
