Stephanie Boutot Represents ASM in Boom Box Parade, 2016

Note: ASM is NOT the ambulance transport or paramedic service provider in Willimantic. In an emergency, always dial 9-1-1.

WILLIMANTIC — I know the 4th has come and gone, but ASM is still America Strong! It was another successful year at the annual Boom Box Parade in Willimantic. ASM, in our traditional orange and blue, proudly wore red, white and blue to celebrate with the rest of the crowd for the momentous occasion.

The radio set to the 1400 WILI AM station as they played the parade music, a tradition that began in 1986 when no marching band was available for the parade. This year’s parade was held in 82 degree weather and lasted 96 minutes, the longest since the record breaker of 117 min in 2010.

I enjoy the reactions from the parade goers, young and old, with great big smiles, waves and cheers. We may not be the first responders in the town, but they know who we are and they seem to appreciate us here. It’s an event I look forward to every year!

ASM Participates in Weekend Food Drive in South Windsor, 2016

SOUTH WINDSOR — On June 11, 2016 crews from ASM were on-site again this year at Stop and Shop and Geissler’s in South Windsor to participate in a food drive to benefit the South Windsor Food and Fuel Bank.

South Windsor 2016 Food Drive

Excerpts from a note from the Director of Adult and Senior Services for the Town of South Windsor:

I wanted to say a big thank you for your help this past weekend for the food drive to benefit the SW Food Bank. It was a HUGE success!

We have a TON of boxes in our hallway and our volunteers worked tirelessly to put the bags of food away today so that clients can use the food bank tomorrow.

A total of 141 boxes with an estimated 7,050 items were donated PLUS $1426 in cash!  Unbelievable! All this AND it was Strawberry Fest Day!!

Your support of this worthy cause is so greatly appreciated. I know it means using resources from your own departments, and it truly means a lot.

Team work makes the Dream work!

ASM’s Josh Traber Receives a Thank You Visit

Traber's Visitors AMANCHESTER — On December 28, 2015 ASM Paramedic Josh Traber was visited by a family who wanted to thank them for caring for their three year old son Wesley. In June of 2015 Wesley had an allergic reaction to peanuts in South Windsor and was treated by Josh. Since that time he has asked each time he has seen an ambulance whether each one was “his ambulance”.

Wesley’s mom brought cookies and Josh gave Wesley and his older brother a tour of the ambulance. She said via email after their brief reunion, “Josh was wonderful to us that day.  He made me feel calm and at ease, and I am grateful for that.  The job you all do is really a gift, and you touch so many lives on a daily basis it takes a special person to do what you do.”
