MANCHESTER — On August 31, 2012 the Ambulance Service of Manchester hosted the School Nursing team from Manchester Public Schools for their annual in-service and CPR training.
As Manchester is a HeartSafe Community, Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) now have a prominent place within the school system. Participants received an update in the use of the AED as part of the Healthcare Provider CPR training. They also received a refresher on the management of the choking victim.
The remainder of the in-service included medication administration, disease awareness, review of protocols, epinephrine administration, and other topics and was conducted by MPS staff.
HARTFORD — On August 8, 2012 Aetna sent EMTs Jordan Smith and Jason Basora to represent the company at The Boys and Girls Club of Hartford’s National Night Out. According to information provided by the Asylum Hill club:

ASM in Willimantic’s Boom Box Parade
WINDHAM — One of ASM’s newest Mercedes Sprinter Ambulances participated in Willimantic’s 27th annual Boombox Parade on July 4, 2012. ASM has participated for several years, care of EMT Stephanie Boutot. As she was in the very first Boom Box parade, Stephanie has been insistent that ASM participate each year.

HARTFORD — On June 26, 2012, Fatih Belgin from Istanbul’s Metropolitan Municipality – Istanbul Fire Department in Turkey was at Aetna Ambulance to shadow an ambulance crew, tour facilities and observe 911 calls.
Along with his hosts from the Central Area Health Education Center (AHEC), Inc., he met with EMTs, Paramedics, and Directors Graham MacDonald and Mark Hannegan. They explained the US EMS system and how fire, police and ambulance services work together. Continue reading
ASM’s Casey Chubka with a possible future Paramedic
MANCHESTER — On June 10, 2012 the Ambulance Service of Manchester sent a 2012 Mercedes Sprinter Ambulance to the Touch a Truck event at the Lutz Children’s Museum in Manchester.
The display encouraged the kids in attendance to climb aboard, see and touch the EMS equipment and sit on the stretcher. ASM’s distinctive checkered pattern and bright colors brought a lot of attention and allowed us to compete with the Big Boys (like MFRE Engine 4).
ASM’s Casey Chubka and Nick Chasse provided ambulance tours and the entertainment for those in attendance, giving out coloring books and posing for pictures. Casey’s picture and details about the event showed up on a parenting blog about the event.

An unusual guest Paramedic treats an unusual patient at Washington School Fun Day
MANCHESTER — On June 11, 2012 a Paramedic crew from the Ambulance Service of Manchester attended Washington School’s Annual “Fun Day”. The Manchester elementary school and the PTA hold the event to celebrate the close of each school year.
ASM’s Vinnie Maston and Jason Bak were a hit last year, autographing ASM coloring books for the students and giving tours of the ambulance. This year Vinnie, a Supervisor and Paramedic returned with fellow Supervisor and Paramedic Mike Panciera.
Representatives from Manchester Police Department and Manchester Fire Rescue EMS were on hand to round out the public safety services in Manchester.

EAST HARTFORD — On April 6, 2012, Ambulance Service of Manchester (ASM) Paramedic Supervisor Beth Sheils and Paramedic Rory Leslie presented the basics of Emergency Medical Services to the Girls Scout Daisy Troop of East Hartford.
The presentation took place at the East Hartford Cultural Center where the girls (and one boy!) saw the ins and outs of the ambulance and learned about first aid, when to use 911 and growing up to be a Paramedic. SOUTHINGTON — Aetna’s David Noyes was featured under the heading People in the Community of the Southington Citizen – Record Journal.
The accompanying article reads: Children in the morning class at Plantsville Community Nursery School, 109 Church St., Plantsville had a visit from an Emergency Medical Technician, David Noyes, during “people in the community month”. Noyes gave children a tour of the ambulance and told them about what he does to help people who are sick or hurt.
