MANCHESTER and HARTFORD —Aetna Ambulance and ASM send Patient and Customer Satisfaction Surveys to a random sampling of patients who have received emergency or STAT inter-facility services from our companies.

The final part of the survey asks that the respondent, “Please use a word or phrase to describe us and/or the ambulance crew.”

ECHN Case Review at ASM

On Monday, March 9th 2020, ECHN hosted a CME Patient Case Review for area EMS professionals at the Ambulance Service of Manchester. Dr. James Castellone, MBA, FACEP and EMS Medical Director also presented Paramedic Greg Derosier and EMT Manuela Sarles with a pin and certificate of excellence for a recent cardiac arrest save. Thank you to all who attended and participated in the event!

ASM Attends Bennet Academy for Career Day

MANCHESTER — On March 11th, 2020, ASM’s Cheryl Everest and Matthew Kleza attended Bennet Academy’s Career Day to speak with 5th and 6th grade children about career opportunities as EMT’s and Paramedics. The students rotated through a number of stations in small groups and were able to ask questions and spend time in the areas that interested them. Members of Manchester Police Department and Manchester Fire & Rescue EMS were also in attendance. If interested in a career in EMS while attending Manchester High School, the students will be able to enroll in the EMT program hosted by ASM’s education department in conjunction with MFRE.

ASM Receives Visit From SW Chamber of Commerce

SOUTH WINDSOR: On March 5th, 2020, South Windsor Chamber of Commerce was generous enough to provide our crew members with a break from their daily routine with a slice of pizza. The Chamber members visited ASM’s headquarters to demonstrate their support for local emergency medical service personnel.

Cleared for Independent Dispatch: ASM’s Nora Young Completes Precepting Phase

MANCHESTER – As of February 2nd, 2020, ASM’s Nora Young has been cleared by Eastern Connecticut Health Network medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that ASM serves. Nora was hired at the Ambulance Service of Manchester in March of 2015 and completed her Paramedic training at New Britain EMS Academy. Nora’s preceptors were Paramedic Supervisor Josh Traber and Paramedic Dave White.

As with all precepting phases at ASM, Nora ’s final approval came from Eastern Connecticut Health Network after shadowing her in the field as they responded to emergency calls. On behalf of the ASM Family, we would like to wish Nora the best of luck and say we are very proud to have such skilled professionals on staff.

ASM Participates in Manchester’s Early Childhood Fair, 2020!

MANCHESTER — On February 22, 2020, ASM’s Kyle Caldwell and Sean Gregg participated in Manchester Youth Service Bureau’s Early Childhood Fair held at Manchester High School. Parents and kids had the opportunity to find out what resources are available for the upcoming year in Manchester. The fair is geared for kids from birth to 8 years old. ASM has participated in this event for nine consecutive years.

Love our First Responders Event in Manchester

MANCHESTER — On Valentine’s Day, the staff and residents of Arbors of Hop Brook Retirement Community graciously hosted a “Love our First Responders” breakfast demonstrating their appreciation and respect for The Ambulance Service of Manchester, Manchester Police Department, and Manchester Fire Department. Mayor Jay Moran returned to this annual event as well while agency members took a to moment relax with staff and residents. In addition, The Arbors staff presented Phyllis DiGioia Honor Wellness with a check for their continued work providing First Responders with counseling services.

ASM Hosts Local Girl Scout Troop

Manchester- On February 12th, 2020 Ambulance Service of Manchester’s Kayla Fortin and Danielle Chowaniec had the opportunity to work with Girl Scout Troop 10862. The girls learned about the 911 system, toured the ASM facility and worked towards their first aid badges. (Picture approved by parents and Troop Leaders).

South Windsor- On January 21st, 2020 Ambulance Service of Manchester’s Gregory Derosier had the opportunity to work with Girl Scout Troop 10912 from South Windsor. The troop enjoyed a tour of the building while Greg fielded questions from the visitors in the patient compartment of Alpha 11. (Pictures approved by parents and Troop Leaders).

ASM Holds First ACLS Experienced Provider Class!

The American Heart Association recently released an updated ACLS Experienced Provider curriculum. This program allows experienced paramedics to further expand their clinical knowledge using group discussion and research to “solve” cases presented to them. The course requires participants to pass a written exam and 3 practical stations. The class then moves onto the advanced content, which includes: Toxicology cases, Metabolic disturbances, Post-Resuscitation care, and complex Respiratory cases. This is the first time ASM has offered the program, and it was well-received by everyone involved. ASM plans on 2 more of these classes in 2020. See our website for details!

ASM Hosts MCSC Meeting

MANCHESTER – On January 9th, ASM hosted the Manchester Community Services Council Meeting. Over 30 people attended along with “Wonder” the Fidelco Guide dog in training. The Manchester Community Services Council, or MCSC, is dedicated to supporting community alliances that remove barriers to human services as a critical component for enhancing the quality of life for all Manchester residents. The goal of this monthly meeting is to:

  • Identify and discuss social service needs
  • Hear presentations by local experts
  • Network with like-minded peers and community members 
  • Support scholarships for higher education and skills training
