MANCHESTER — As of March 14, 2012, ASM’s Mike Mayo has been cleared by Eastern Connecticut Health Network medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that ASM serves.

HARTFORD — Kevin Mathiau has been an EMT with Aetna Ambulance since March of 2011. He is a Veteran of the United States Navy serving as a Second Class Petty Officer (E-5) Hospital Corpsman for eight years. His first four years he served with the Marines in Camp Lejuene, North Carolina, doing everything from emergency medicine to clinical medicine, and earning numerous awards while with the Marines. Leslie Sofia Prado migrated from Lima, Peru with her family as a young child and settled in Hartford. She is dedicated to advocating high quality care for all patients, and wants to engage the community that raised her in joining this work. Prado’s diverse experiences as a student, researcher and health provider have given her a clear perspective on the gaps and weaknesses in the health care system. She understands the correlation between social determinants of health and health outcomes and believes that multilateral collaborations in and outside of the community are needed to address the complexity of health inequities. Sharon Vanover needed good news.
On July 30 in Stafford, a car with an allegedly drunk driver at the wheel crushed Vanover’s right leg as she rode on the back of husband Mark Vanover’s motorcycle. Recovery will be long and painful, and the Vanovers said they had to close one of their two day-care centers this week because Sharon cannot manage the business.
Into these dark days comes the Ambulance Service of Manchester and a modern version of the Cinderella story. Read more…
