n 2015 I was hired at ASM as an EMT. This allowed me to practice my skills and transition into the role of a paramedic student at Capital Community College. After my graduation from the paramedic program I was able to begin precepting. I enjoyed the opportunity to work alongside Josh, Tim, Dave, and Matt over the course of several weeks to gain practice in the field and work towards independent dispatch. Their wealth of knowledge and consistent encouragement, paired with a variety of calls, allowed me to push myself, grow and learn. Their support, as well as my coworkers, has now allowed me to confidently start my work as an independent paramedic.

Their differing styles of practicing medicine helped me develop my own techniques as well as the ever-important ability to think critically while on scene. I’m excited to apply their teachings related to emergencies and high acuity transfers when I encounter them on my solo shifts. My precepting experience has been incredibly informative and I am excited that I am now cleared for independent dispatch.”

Kudos from the Cath Lab: Volume 4
MANCHESTER — On May 17, 2012, ASM Paramedic Supervisor Robert O’Neil wirelessly transmitted a 12-lead EKG to Hartford Hospital in order to precipitate a field activation of the cardiac catheterization lab.
The transmission, which flows through a purpose-specific modem stored externally on the LifePak 15 cardiac monitor, draws the attention of the ED physician, interventionalist and cardiologist and most often results in the patient being conveyed from the field directly into the care of the cardiac staff in the cath lab.
This particular patient was in cardiogenic shock as partially manifested by bradycardia.
The following is excerpted from an email from Dr. Marcin Dada, Associate Director of the Chest Pain Center, Hartford Hospital: Continue reading
