Mannequin Challenge at “Emergency of Hunger” Food Drive

South Windsor – In an effort to attract holiday shoppers and boost spirits during the “Emergency of Hunger” Food Drive this past weekend, participants created a Mannequin Challenge Video.  ASM employees, along with members of the South Windsor Rotary Club, Fire Department, and Police Department improvised and filmed the video while collecting goods. The video has been viewed over 32,000 times on South Windsor PD’s Facebook page alone!

Regional “Emergency Of Hunger” Food Drive Starts Saturday

Emergency response agency and food pantry representatives gathered Wednesday at The Ambulance Service of Manchester to kick off the Emergency of Hunger Food Drive.

MANCHESTER –  A regional food drive that benefits area pantries and homeless shelters is set to begin Saturday.

This will be the eighth year of the Emergency of Hunger drive, which has collected and distributed food and other donations in Manchester, Vernon, South Windsor and Windsor. Organizers and volunteers include firefighters, police officers, ambulance personnel, hospital staff and Rotary Club members from the area.

To date, the team has collected 210,000 food and personal care items, 6,000 turkeys and hams and about $143,000 in cash, checks and gift cards, organizer Sean Norton of Ambulance Service of Manchester said.

  • Vernon – 10 Pitkin Road., November 12, 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • South Windsor – 1739 Ellington Road., November 19, 20 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

ASM Participates in Foster Family Farm’s Public Safety Day

As shown in the picture to the left, the maze was cut to portray Police, Fire and EMS. Crew members from ASM, along with representatives from South Windsor Fire and Police Departments were on hand to showcase their respective rolls in emergency response.

SOUTH WINDSOR — On June 11, 2016 crews from ASM were on-site again this year at Stop and Shop and Geissler’s in South Windsor to participate in a food drive to benefit the South Windsor Food and Fuel Bank.

Excerpts from a note from the Director of Adult and Senior Services for the Town of South Windsor:

I wanted to say a big thank you for your help this past weekend for the food drive to benefit the SW Food Bank. It was a HUGE success!

We have a TON of boxes in our hallway and our volunteers worked tirelessly to put the bags of food away today so that clients can use the food bank tomorrow.

A total of 141 boxes with an estimated 7,050 items were donated PLUS $1426 in cash!  Unbelievable! All this AND it was Strawberry Fest Day!!

Your support of this worthy cause is so greatly appreciated. I know it means using resources from your own departments, and it truly means a lot.

Team work makes the Dream work!

Stores, Emergency Personnel ‘Stuff A Truck’ To Help Families

Local first responders, along with Stop & Shop, 1739 Ellington Road, and Geissler’s Supermarket, 965 Sullivan Ave., held the annual “Stuff A Truck” event on Dec. 12 to gather money, food, and toys for South Windsor families in need.

The South Windsor Police Department partnered with the South Windsor Fire Department, and Ambulance Service of Manchester helped as well. The organizations worked together to collect food and toys at the locations.

Nora Young, an EMT with Ambulance Service of Manchester, said she was happy with the turnout and with how residents support one another, as well.

“People always want to help their community out,” she said. “We just give them a place to do it.”

SOUTH WINDSOR — The South Windsor Police Department will join members of the South Windsor Fire Department and Ambulance Service of Manchester at Stop & Shop, 1739 Ellington Road, and Geissler’s Supermarket, 965 Sullivan Ave., for this year’s “Stuff a Truck” event.

Emergency services personnel will be at both stores receiving toys, clothing, food, and cash donations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Toys should be new and unwrapped.

SOUTH WINDSOR — On June 20, 2015 crews from ASM were on-site at Stop and Shop and Geissler’s in South Windsor to participate in a food drive to benefit the South Windsor Food and Fuel Bank.

ASM received the following note from South Windsor’s Human Services Department:

Thanks to ASM for helping out with the Triad Sponsored Food Drive to benefit the South Windsor Food and Fuel Bank!

This was truly a team effort with The Fire and Police Department, Explorers, ASM and Triad volunteers all pitching in to help! Geisslers and Stop and Shop were also very helpful with pre-packing bags, which made it easier for shoppers!

Stuff-a-Truck in South Windsor a Success

SOUTH WINDSOR — ASM had the fortunate opportunity to work alongside several agencies including South Windsor Police and South Windsor Fire Department as part of a holiday Stuff-A-Truck event. The following is a note from Adult and Senior Services regarding the success of the event:

I wanted to say a big thank you to you and all of the staff and volunteers who have helped us this holiday season! The Food and Fuel Bank is going to be set for several months to come thanks to the generosity of time the volunteers and staff gave to the cause.

The community is extremely generous, and you all made it easier for them to donate by being stationed at both grocery stores before Thanksgiving and yesterday as well. The monetary donations will help several families with oil during this cold season. And of course the toys will go to very excited children on Christmas day! It doesn’t get any better than that!

I would love it if you can pass along our thanks, from the entire Human Services Department, for your commitment to helping your neighbors. It so greatly appreciated!

Yesterday’s total was just under $2000 in cash, $85 in gift cards, countless bags and boxes of food and dozens and dozens of toys! In November, the monetary donations were almost $4,000 in addition to all the food!

May you all enjoy this holiday season knowing you brightened the days of so many!

Snow Queen to join ‘Stuff a Truck’ event

SOUTH WINDSOR — The Police Department, the Fire Department, and Ambulance Service of Manchester will hold a “Stuff a Truck” food and toy drive, which will include a special guest character actor.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Stop & Shop, 1739 Ellington Road, and at Geissler’s Supermarket, 965 Sullivan Ave.

Organizers are looking for new, unwrapped gifts, including clothing, toys, gift cards, and food.

The donations will benefit local families in need during the holiday season.

“Anything that people can do to make these families’ and children’s holidays a little better is much appreciated,” South Windsor Police Lt. Scott Custer said.

The Snow Queen, from www.Onceuponafairytalect.com will join volunteers in collecting donations and also will be available for pictures.
